Scott is one of the nicest guys to ever play a guitar while dressed like a woman (Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids). He is also an artist I keep meaning to write about but haven't gotten around to yet.

Unfortunately he also has been diagnosed with cancer. To help with the inevitable costs he will face friends have organized a benefit show Saturday, November 16 at Churchills (5501 NE 2nd Ave, Miami). There will be bands a plenty and also stuff for you to bid on--art, memorabilia, midget hookers, rocket launchers etc (some of this stuff I just made up).

What I am not making up is that more information (including businesses in South Florida who are helping out when you patronize them) is available on the Facebook page for this event.

All the best to Scott and help if you can.

Tony Sly of No Use For A Name died too young. He was 41 when he passed in 2012. But, of course, the music lives on. Fat Wreck Chords is set to release The Songs Of Tony Sly: A Tribute in stores on October 29, 2013.

Bands paying tribute include NOFX, Bad Religion, Simple Plan, Rise Against, The Bouncing Souls and many others (26 in total). Profits from the LP go to the Tony Sly Memorical Fund. The fund benefits Sly's family (he left behind a wife and two daughters).

Sly started his career as a music at the age of 17, in 1987. His music is admired the world over, as evidenced by artists from all over the world contributing to this release. It is a sad story but this shows the music is and will be remembered--and that fans can help his family.

They Might Be Giants have a new video, Alphabet of Nations, made up of crowdsourced images from around the world. In addition all proceeds from Alphabet of Nations t-shirts and posters go to The Global Fund For Children. The design is by Pentagram NY.

They Might Be Giants are also playing at the Freedom To Marry show at Beacon Theater in NYC on October 30. Also appearing will be The National, Rufus Wainright, Doveman and others.

And if THAT were not enough the band is also playing three NYE shows in Brooklyin at Music Hall of Williamsburg on December 29, 30 & 31. Technically I guess only the last one is really a New Years Eve show if you want to get picky.

For those of you not in the know They Might Be Giants have released several CDsof kids music. This past summer they teamed up with The Global Fund For Children and Emily Oberman of Pentagram NY and asked people from around the world to submit three photos--a portrait, their nation's flag and an image representing their culture. Tons of submissions arrived and the video shows them. To get the abovementioned shirts and posters go HERE (for poster) or HERE (for t-shirt).

The Global Fund for Children makes grants to small, community based organizations that work with kids who are among the most vulnerable in the world. They also do projects like this video where books, photos, film and more are used to promote understanding.
