On September 13, 2011 Spyro Gyro release A Foreign Affair, the culmination of the band’s travels and love of music from around the world. The band have always used different styles from around the world in their music but this one, apparently, casts an even wider net.
It has been 35 years since the band’s first release. Their last four releases have been nominated for a Grammy. They are like the Meryl Streep of jazz.
They do not, by the way, call this a “world music” recording. That term is an eye roller. They say it is basically a case of the music they have come in contact with influencing the band subtly. Essentially this is a Spyro Gyro record but with hints, dribs and drabs of world influence.
