Planningtorock’s record, W, comes out May 17, 2011 on DFA Records. I have to admit I was unnerved by the breathless press release: “she’s raises the bar several notches”, “a powerful soul odyssey that ravages the listener, …”its melancholy and euphoric.” It frightened me.
The music was written and recorded in her (Planningtorock is a woman named Janine…they give no last name, you know, like “Cher”) studio in Berlin. She plays all the instruments and sings everything as well. The record was mixed in Sweden and there were some additional contributes before that from folks here and there.
