Emilie Simon Covers Bronski Beat's "Small Town Boy"

Small Town Boy

Emilie Simon chose an interesting track to cover, Bronski Beat’s Small Town Boy. That song, and that band, was one of the first bands to be pretty successful in the mainstream (writing pretty serious songs) and very, very gay. And this song is heart wrenching don’t you think? It might even cause a tear to form in the corner of some homophobic Neanderthal clutching a tea party pamphlet in one hand and a Old Milwaukee in the other.

Simon’s new record. The Big Machine, is her first entirely in English. The record is out now and has some neato guest talent (which we wrote about before). Her music is all over the place. It is quirky. But then I have only heard a few tracks.
