Conquistador’s latest, I’m Alive, a alluring bit of psych-pop, is below for your perusal. The electro-glam track is the latest from the LA artist and musician in collaboration with Carlos Cháirez of Mexico’s Kinky. The track was inspired by the Arab Spring (took awhile to get this out ?). But it isn’t a new thing to be invested in protest movements worldwide. Conquistador previously was involved in the Free Iran movement in Sweden and donated music during the abortive Green Movement.
Also referenced in this song are the Zazous—a little known subculture in World War II France who wore yellow stars that said “Zazou.” These are taken as mocking the Nazis but others, over the years, have suggested different motives rather than solidarity with the oppressed (i.e. they were just rebellious youth)
Nonetheless, it is nice to see pop music with a message.
