Béla Fleck & The Flecktones' Releasing "Rocket Science" In May & Heading Out On Tour

Béla Fleck & The Flecktones', Rocket Science, comes out May 17. This is the first time since 1991 that Howard Levy (piano, harmonica), Victor Wooten (bass) and Roy “Futureman” Wooten (various percussion) and Fleck have all been together in the studio. If you are not aware of them think of an amalgam of jazz, classical, bluegrass (Fleck plays banjo), African music (the banjo’s origin is, incidentally, from West Africa), Euroepan folk and blues. It sounds like it wouldn’t fit but it does.

The band started in 1988 and three albums were released. Levy left in ’92 and the group continued as a trio with various guests. More albums followed as did performances and awards. The band never really BROKE UP. Just everyone sort of came home.
