This is the third release by the group and follows Traineater and their self-titled debut. I have, honestly, never heard them but the lineup at least makes me curious. How about you?
Members of Skeleton Key, Pere Ubu and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum make up The Book of Knots, and that band is releasing Garden of Fainting Stars June 14. The record also has a slew of notable guest musicians such as Blixa Bargeld, Mike Watt and Mike Patton.

Starfucker (aka STRFKR) are a really creative band. They just released a new video for their track, Julius. The track is off the band’s second record, Reptilians. The band has been out on tour with Casiokids, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Brahms and We All Have Hooks for Hands. I saw them when they played Chicago at Lincoln Hall and took some pictures. They were an enjoyable live act. More than that even. They have some other dates coming up and you should go see them if you can…. Tour 6/03 - Mexico City, MX - Caradura 6/20 - Pullman, WA - Bell Tower 6/22 - 06/24 - Calgary, AB - Canada Olympic Plaza - Sled Island 6/26 - Spokane, WA - A Club 8/10 - Santa Barbara, CA - Soho Restaurant & Music Club 8/11 - Los Angeles, CA - El Rey Theatre 8/12 - 08/14 - San Francisco, CA - Outside Lands Manchester Orchestra’s new record, Simple Math, is out and you can hear it streaming free on the band’s Soundcloud Page. This is the band’s third record and is probably the one that is going to truly rocked them to the stars. Go listen.
This stream will not be up for more than a week or so. Give it a listen. The band is also out on tour and the dates are below. Tour May 10 - Boston, MA - House Of Blues * May 11 - New York, NY - Terminal 5 * May 12 - Performance on Late Show with David Letterman May 13 - Providence, RI - Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel ### May 14 - Philadelphia, PA - Theatre of the Living Arts ### May 16 - Toronto, ON - The Mod Club ### May 17 - Detroit, MI - The Fillmore * May 18 - Columbus, OH - The LC Pavilion * May 20 - Columbia, SC - Jillian's * May 23 - Orlando, FL - House Of Blues * May 24 - Tampa, FL - The Ritz * May 25 - Atlanta, GA - The Tabernacle * May 27, 2011 - Houston, TX - Verizon Wireless Theatre ** May 28 - Austin, TX - Stubbs ** May 29 - Dallas, TX - The Palladium ** May 31 - Phoenix, AZ - The Marquee ** June 1 - San Diego, CA - Soma ** June 2 - Los Angeles, CA - The Music Box # June 7 - Eugene, OR - McDonald Theatre ** June 8 - Portland, OR - Crystal Ballroom ** June 9 - Seattle, WA - The Showbox SODO ** June 11 - Salt Lake City, UT - Club Sound # June 12 - Denver, CO - Summit Music Hall# * with CAGE THE ELEPHANT, O'Brother, and TBA opener(s) ** with CAGE THE ELEPHANT, Sleeper Agent, and TBA opener(s) # with TBA opener(s) ## with AN HORSE and Harrison Hudson ### with AN HORSE, Harrison Hudson, and O'Brother Ocote Soul Sounds photo by Houshang GhahariePirata Adrian Quesada of Grammy winner, Grupo Fantasma, has another project, Ocote Soul Sounds. Quesada is joinged by Martin Perna of Antibalas. If you haven’t heard Antibalas you really need to go listen.
But this is about the latest from Ocote Soul Sounds, Taurus. Tauras comes out June 7. The music is a psychedelic, funk, Afro-Cuban sound. And this is the first time the band has brought in an outside producer. And, they are not fooling around, that outside producer is Eric Hilton of Thievery Corporation. Throw that into the style mentioned above and you are getting into “must listen” territory. The record was recorded in Austin, TX and Washington D.C. and all were written by Perna and Quesada. The Unspeakable Medley The new record from Chilly Gonzales is billing itself as the first “orchestral rap album.” Ok…that could be…interesting. But it also makes me think of the world’s first “country rap record” or the world’s first “klezmer rap record”.
But you can listen to a medley of the music above to make your decision. The Unspeakable Chilly Gonzales comes out on Arts & Crafts, a label that consistently releases interesting music. The Dear Hunter are out on tour with Dredg right now (the remaining dates below). But they have put out a video to whet your appetite for their latest, Orange. The EP is part of a 9 EP collection, The Color Spectrum. The collection comes out June 14, 2011 on Triple Crown Records. You can get it as CD, a vinyl box set, full length vinyl and digital downloads. You can pre-order the Limited Vinyl Box set, HERE. The War on Drugs is a musical vehicle for Adam Granduciel out of Philadelphia. And the record has a slew of prominent musicians from the City of Brotherly Love. It was recorded at Granduciel’s home studio over the past 4 years.
Check out a track, Baby Missiles, above now. We HAVE written about Frederik (out of Sweden) but they have a new video for their song, Chrome Cavities. Their record, Flora, is out now. The record is the band’s third full length. They have lots of other videos worth a look on Youtube. The appeared at a number of shows in the most recent SXSW. Their second record, Trilogi, is also available on white vinyl. Hospital Ships’ Jordan Geiger is on tour in Europe right now. And his new record, Lonely Twin, is getting noticed via video etc etc etc. You can see the new video for the track, Reprise, below. The record comes out June 7 on Graveface Records. Does it seem like I am not into it? I am not. Not HOSPITAL SHIPS, mind you but writing and posting this. I lost my computer’s power cable which is really annoying.
