JPNSGRLS, out of lovely Vancouver, just released The Sharkweek EP on limited edition vinyl. Really most vinyl coming out is "limited edition" isn't it? No one is pressing 100,000 units anymore! The EP is an expanded version of their debut and includes the song, Mushrooms, that you can check out HERE. You can order the vinyl HERE.

Charlie And The Foxtrots release video, The Man I Am. Bankrobbers, bandits and folk music? What more could you want. The band is also set to release a new EP, which will be followed by another EP later in the year. Good stuff. If you are a fan of Lumineers, Mumford and Sons etc.? There is a good chance this will appeal to you. I say "folk" music above with the caveat that this is not music that makes you think of old people farting dust and complaining about electric instruments. Lune, out of Stockholm (does every single person in Scandinavia have a band?), has their debut LP, Music & Sports, coming March 10, 2013. You can check out the first single, Tonight, below. It sort of maybe has a little bit of a Sugarcubes vibe? But don't listen to me. Listen to the song and draw your own conclusions. Reading reviews in this day and age is for the lazy or people unable to form their own opinions. But enough of my soap box. Lune is fronted by Linnéa Martinsson and has its roots in her dance and performance pieces from earlier times. She also will have her version of Swedish House Mafia's Leave the World Behind in that group's soon to be released documentary (also titled Leave the World Behind). The Kickback, from Chicago, is set to release their new LP this summer but they are heading out on tour a wee bit early. Who doesn't want to get the HELL out of Chicago in February? Check out tour dates (more dates will be added in June) and the track, When I Die, below. The single will be officially released February 25, 2014. The new LP is produced by Jim Eno of Spoon. The band has released singles and EPs but this is their first LP. Tour

They call it "dark pop" but aside from the subject matter it doesn't sound ALL that dark. Is Lorde dark? It sounds like slightly more edgy pop music which is fine by me. But some vinegar in that bubble gum dammit! She was apparently on the show The Voice but we will not hold that against the young lady. She should get Steve Albini to producer her next record. Squarrepusher/Z Machines' EP, Music For Robots, comes out April 8, 2014. The future is here I suppose. Last year Squarepusher and various Japanese composers were invited to create music to be played by a music performing system (three robots called Z Machines). You can check out th video of Squarepusher's Sad Robots Go Funny. It sounds like smooth jazz. I was expecting something angrier like the robots from Terminator. This one song led to the creation of the EP (since Squarepusher felt there were stones left unturned). |
