Ajnabi started as a means of Blake Luley dealing with anxiety. When he felt overwhelmed he would take his laptop and the closest instrument and record loops with the built in mic, adding layers.
From this therapeutic beginning Luley created Nablus and Gaza, two ambient meditations on Palestine. The former deals with time spent in Nablus in the summer of 2011 and it was recorded in a cultural center where Luley was teaching Palestinian children music.
The second track was taken after news broke of the war in Gaza in late 2012. Luley was paralyzed by the lives lost. He sampled Simon and Garfunkel’s America, in part to focus the piece through his American eyes.
