Not only is Mercury Rev re-releasing 1998’s Deserter’s Songs (Co-Op Music) they are giving it the royal treatment. The original disc will be accompanied by a 13-track bonus disc. As a teaser you can hear the track Opus 40 above. It is available for free download.
This is one of those records that captures a time for many folks. Late 90s nostalgia. But I am sure it stands up today. Earlier records by the band were a lot less accessible and noisier.
Another thing about Mercury Rev; I was in a band back in those days. On a couple of tours Mercury Rev was in the road a week ahead of us. And as I was booking our tour the booking people kept holding the dates for my crappy band because they wanted to be sure we weren’t booked on a day Mercury Rev wanted.
