Red Truck Gallery (New Orleans) showed work by Brian Cunningham, Andres Basurto and the incomperable Chris Roberts Antieau at Scope Miami Beach 2016.
Cunningham's work references sensational advertising. The "products" he picks may not be controversial but he puts them in a new context. Really the ad world should emulate him. If GE had ads like this I would buy a shitload of lightbulbs.
Basurto, from Mexico, creates sculptures using bits and pieces of glass from beer and wine bottles. Skulls are often the subject matter of these sculptures. They are held together with epoxy and are fragile pieces mirroring the fragility of out lives.
Roberts Antieau has a gallery of her own in New Orleans. If you don't know her work your life is just a little poorer for it. We've written about her work being at Red Truck at least three previous times. Her piece Chimpanzees Are Dangerous is one of my favorite things Ive ever seen (not just paintings, THINGS of any type).
