Howard Gross' Whistpering is his latest collection of mixed media relief sculptures, colored pencil drawings and scratch pencil drawings. It runs at Causey Contemporary (29 Orchard St., New York) from April 14 to May 8, 2016. There will be a public reception, with the artist from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday April 15. This is the artists fourth solo show with the gallery. Gross has an MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago. His first solo exhibit was with the Alan Frumkin Gallery in Chicago. Back in the day his work was photography--not of skyscrapers but of cracks in sidewalks, roads and more. He is well known for his A Closed Eye Concept where he took photos of art luminaries with their eyes closed. Emmanuel Barcilon's On the Edge of Visibility is set to run at Rosefeld Porcini (37 Rathbone St. London) from February 19 to April 2, 2016. The opening runs from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Thursday, February 18. The artist, a native of Paris who still lives and works in the city, takes a long time to create these pieces. Some take as long as a year. He initially pours color over a wooden support, sands it and reworks it many times. Each coat never completely covers the one underneath. A "memory" of each layer remains (and sometimes little more than that). photo by Anthony Lycett
Olga Korper Gallery (17 Morrow Ave. Toronto) is set to show new work by Matt Donovan from Thursday, February 11 through Saturday March 12, 2016. The opening takes place 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The artist's work references the "low-resolution" world of memes and avatars and other such pieces of popular culture. This new work deals with how toys, including, Legos, prime us for this new, digital world. Beers Contemporary (London) showed work by Andrew Salgado at Pulse Miami 2015. Salgado is a Canadian-born, London-based artist. You can find out more about him HERE. Lots of high end publications and galleries tout him as a sound investment. He also has two high profile exhibits coming up this year. The first begins May 9, 2016 at Thierry Goldberg Gallery (New York) and the second October at Beers. |
