Aaron Galleries showed a remarkable collection of prints at Ink Miami. Ink Miami focuses on prints and works on paper (although you see some other sorts of work mixed in here and there). Aaron Galleries might have had the most impressive selection--at least from a historical perspective.

Monica Jahan Bose's Jalobayu was a performance piece performed at Select Art Fair (Miami Beach) in December, 2014 This work relates to climate change (and its impact on low-lying impoverished areas) and features the artist wrapping herself in a 216 foot sari. There is an earlier, advance piece, on this HERE. Where else is more apropos to illustrate the devastation and the coming devastation of climate change than Miami Beach? It isn't poor...but it is notice that the climate change doesn't differentiate between rich and poor. Gallery Cosmos (Dhaka, Bangladesh) showed work by Rokeya Sultan and Monica Jahan Bose at Select Miami Beach 2014. The gallery always has art that is creative and provocative. Jahan Bose is one of Mapanare's favorite artists; this is not just because of the aesthetically pleasing nature of her work. Her art means something, her art aims to create change and foster a new view about women in art and women in general. In the USA this may seem odd but while her work often takes place here the focus, the goal, is global (and if you think women are equal here ? you may be delusional). More on Jahan Bose's work shorlly. Jahan Bose and Sultan both great truly beautiful works on paper. Wynwood Art Group (Miami) showed work by Hamilton Aquiar and Steinunn Thorarinsdottir at Select Miami Beach 2014. Wynwood Art Group feature emerging artists and promotes art lectures, poetry readings, dance and music performances, book signings and more. They work to integrate Miami's disparate art community. Find out more at the link above. 184 Project Space (New York) Showed Work By An Artist I Couldn't Identify At Select Miami Beach 20142/26/2015 184 Project Space (New York) showed this work at Select Miami Beach 2014. At least I think it was that gallery as I've gotten a few things mixed up at Select. The artist looks familiar to me so I probably know them and thought I would remember. Usually I wouldn't post this but I love the art.... Regardless, the fairs and galleries there represent emerging artists. If anything is going to make North Beach really bloom it is events like Select Art Fair. Litvak Gallery (Tel Aviv) Showed Michele Bubacco's Sandbox at Select Miami Beach 2014. The exhibit featured not only the figure it the sandbox itself but images based on it. Inliquid Art & Design (Philadelphia) was the first gallery to catch my eye at the unfortunately located Select Art Fair. They showed work by Constance Culpepper and Donna Quinn. The location wasn't unfortunate because the location on North Beach was not picturesque but rather it was a good distance from most of the other happenings. Yet there is something charming about the area--it could be a great place to stop by and maybe with future appearances Select will be the impetus. Culpepper brings life to domestic items we use every day--and does it with a colorful, lively style. You wish you were surrounded by these image she creates. Find out more at www.constanceculpepper.com. Quinn creates abstract pieces--that call to mind fabrics an fashion (but in disconnected chunks). Her stated aim is to invoke family, home and the "fertile ground of youth." Here work is intuitive, highly textured and deals with the passage of time with a sense of reverence. Find out more at www.donnaquinnpaintings.com. Kavachnina Contemporary (Miami) showed work by Salustiano at Context 2014. I would call these paintings "women I dated for most of my life." (especially the dark one). But this is just personally tainted interpretation.
Salustiano might appreciate such interpretation, however. This is, again, just a guess. The artist studied and resides in Seville ( a lovely city). The works by the artist are modern but you cannot really prove that, there are clues to the time (as in the pink image) but the darker image above could be medieval or it could be from a goth club around the corner. The time doesn't seem to matter as much as the individual. They all look right at you, full of confidence and something close to disdain (there is also some lust lurking there). Salustiano is an artist to keep an eye on and you can do that at his website, www.salustiano.com. And as a reminder? Check out the link to the gallery above too; they represent a plethora of interesting artists, perhaps some of the most offbeat in Miami. Galería Manuel Barbié (Barcelona) showed work by Robert Delaunay and Miquel Barceló at Context Miami 2014. The upper painting was finished in 1936 an the lower in 1986, 50 years apart. This is apropos of nothing but it is interesting; which seems more modern to you? Delaunay, a French artist who was one of the founders of the Orphism movement, worked in geometric shapes but with pronounced colors. His work would later on become more abstract and less geometric. He was being shown by multiple galleries this year in Miami; perhaps showing his work gathering more some more traction 60 plus years after his death (or maybe just more work on the market this year). Barceló started studying arts and crafts and moved into the avantgarde via the Taller Lunatic group. He is a painter and sculptor with a wide range of influences. His website is currently under construction but keep googling. Tezuka Yama Gallery (Osaka) Showed Work By Kazuma Koike And Satoru Tamura At Context Miami 20142/22/2015 Tezuka Yama Gallery (Osaka) showed work by Kazuma Koike and Satoru Tamura at Context Miami 2014. The gallery has been up and running for 23 years. The gallery was first opened in Tezukayama, outside Osaka, but moved to Minami-Horie in 2010. Their focus has always been on contemporary art, showing Japanese artists all over the world. You can see more on Tamura below via a Youtube video. Check out work by both artists on the gallery website. Heart Machine #12 by Satoru Tamura |
