Ardavin and Garmendia team up to create pieces where the creative focus is not a single artist but rather two minds working together, and yet, independently. The two use traditional mediums, 3-D experimentation and the use of non-traditional materials. Ardavin is a painter and sculptor who uses the human for to evoke imagination and nostalgia. Garmendia’s art uses visual arts make the viewer think about not only the art but accepted attitudes.

Civilian Art Projects ( 1019 7th Street NW Washington, DC) have new work from Jason Falchook (Laying Tracks) and Seth Adelsberger (Bordering on Painting). These solo exhibits include photography and objects influenced by painting. This is Falchook’s first solo exhibit with Civilian and Adelsberger’s second. The exhibits will be on display from February 26 through April 9. Exhibition hours are Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday 1-6pm.
Falchook’s photos are about the “perceotion of the built world” and explore the human tendency to organize space. This new work looks at the greater order outside of the human sphere. The exhibit is of sixteen photos on varied scales. Falchook is a graduate of Corcoran College of Art and Design and lives and works in NYC. Adelsberger, from Baltimore, has been working curating since his last solo work, Semi-Final Frontiers. He used to do vivid sci-fi based work to look at mechanisms behind painting. The new work is the result of a more experimental approach in the studio. Adelsberger is a graduate of Towson University. Civilian Art Projects gallery will be closed March 2-5 as they will be at SCOPE in NYC. Licht Feld gallery will be at Scope in NYC for the fourth time. This time they will be presenting new work by Hubert Kretzschmar, Wayne Coe, MARCK,

RARE is showing new paintings by Jim Wright in an exhibit entitled, Tolerable Barbarians from February 10 through March 10. This is Wright’s fourth solo show at Rare.
There is an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, February 10 at 547 W. 27th St #514, New York City. This new series is of six paintings. Wright focus is the concept of originality via art history and the juxtaposition of historical images and his own. But this is as much commentary of the new trend of “sampling” as it is part of that trend. Wright is making comment on all the “begging, borrowing and stealing” from old masters that goes on in art today. |
