The Way That You Live (bottom) is acrylic on printed canvas, glazed ceramic and (obviously) a chair. These pieces incorporating everyday items bring art home in a way--or take home to art.
She also uses papier-mâché in her work. The sofa piece, Wishlist, is a messy and fascinating work. She has said in a number of interviews that her work comes (in part) out of punk rock--and certainly see that. I remember that couch in many a punk rocker's living room. There is something grubby about Wishlist (gloriously gooey and grubby).
Hutchins also holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago so there is some high-falutin art business going on here too.
