Bashev hearkens to days gone by but not too far gone by--there are hints of dada and maybe a sardonic nod to a old master but this is all done in a post-post-modern context. What comes after modern art? Post-modern and then there is what comes after that. It would be silly to add a third "post" to this.
Semensky's work is obviously less ornate using simpler strokes and minimalist to convene his message and his image. His simple, direct approach is of this world and about the human body. There are no angels or references to myths or old masters. All lovely paintings.
