Cube.Moscow (Moscow, St. Petersburg) Showed Work By Denis Prasolov At Scope Miami Beach 201812/8/2018 Cube.Moscow (Moscow, St. Petersburgh) showed work by Denis Prasolov at Scope Miami Beach. Cube.Moscow is a place for emerging galleries (and artists) to share space and expenses. They have support programs for artists, curatorial workshops, exhibition space and educational programs. They galleries and artists involved participate in international fairs as a group. These pieces are polyurethane and bronze. The single piece to the right is titied, Pig, and the others have similar utilitarian names. Trident Gallery (Gloucester) showed work by Susan Erony at Scope Miami Beach 2018. The piece looks like some depiction of Babylon (or even Babel) from the old testament. Yet the things that look like bricks from a distance are words up close. This is an intricate, complex piece that changes from every angle, even minor changes in your perspective. Erony studied at , Massachusetts College of Art, Lesley University and the University for Humanistic Studies in Utrecht. It is a pretty impressive list. There is often a historic component in her work: sacred texts, nature, the Holocaust and other aspects of society. You can see and find out more at the gallery link above and HERE. Contemporary Art Projects USA (Miami) showed concrete work by Ricardo Cardenas-Eddy At Scope Miami Beach 2018. Cardenas-Eddy does some of his work on concrete. Animalis, Series Muses of Ricardo, and Tribute to Jeab Michel are paint, concrete and steel bars (with added mixed media on the former). The sculpture is suitable for outdoor display. The pieces he is showing during Miami Art Week at Scope (and at Red Dot) are tributes to great artistic masters. Galerie Myrtis Fine Art (Baltimore) showed work by Ronald Jackson and Delita Martin at Scope Miami Beach 2018. Jackson grew up in a farming community in rural Arkansas but moved to California after High School and began working on art. He joined the army but (thankfully) returned to his art after a few years. he has been exhibiting for around ten years and has at least one painting hanging in a U.S. Embassy abroad. Read more about him HERE. Martin lives and works in Texas. She holds a BFA from Texas Southern University. She was once a faculty member at the University of Arkansas but is currently a full time artist. Find out more HERE. Jackson's pieces are oil on canvas while Martin's are acrylic, charcoal, fabric, decorative papers, hand-stitching and liquid gold leaf. Antonio Columbo Gallery (Milan) showed work by the inimitable, unmistakable, El Gato Chimney. The artist, from Milan creates fantastic worlds with bright colors and in a number of styles (over the years). There is more than a bit of the Surrealists in his work but he also hearkens back even further; there are sometimes classical. You almost feel the worlds he creates are real. Birds often figure prominently. A living artistic master. Red Corridor Gallery (Fulda, Germany) showed work by Leszek Skurski at Scope Miami 2018. Skurski's work has shown up at Scope (and here) in both 2014 and 2016). They have appeared many more times and at many other fairs. They are striking, lovely, absorbing pieces that are often so close to white that the figures slowly appear to the viewer. Skurski is a unique painter and , as always the photographs do not do them justice. See better images at the gallery link above or at www.skurski.com. Richard Beavers Gallery (Brooklyn) showed paintings by Genesis Tramaine and Leroy Campbell at Scope Miami 2018. Campbell's pieces are stories, not simply pictures. You can sense background in them and you a future too. There is something alive and real in these. Tramaine's work, still figurative, requires thought and interpretation. They beg for it. They are complex multi-faceted pieces. Each one turned into a brief research project. To read more about here go HERE. GR Gallery (New York) showed work by Meguru Yamaguchi at Scope Miami 2018. Yamaguchi is a Japanese painter who doesn't work exclusively on canvas. He creates on t-shirts, skateboards and other non-standard objects. This is, of course, true in these pieces. The entire GR Gallery booth was dedicated to his work. While they certainly function as stand alone pieces they are also impressive as a collection, as an installation. You can see more at www.meguruyamaguchi.com. Corey Helford Gallery (Los Angeles) showed work by Jasmine Beckett-Griffith and Hikari Shimoda at Scope Miami 2018. It doesn't appear that the velociraptor in question is quite resurrected but we can all take the artist's word for it. Her work often follows a mystical, goth fairytale theme. Shimoda's work inhabits a word somewhere between cute and positively sinister. There is a blend of sweetness and malevolence. See more work HERE. |
