Charlie James Gallery (969 Chung King Rd., Los Angeles) and Royale Projects (Los Angeles) showing work at Expo Chicago 2018 September 28 to 30 at Navy Pier. They will be exhibiting in booth 408. Charlie James and Royale Projects are working together on an exhibition to present work by artists speaking out against the norms of society. The artists cross generations but are linked by their ideals and their work. They all speak, artistically, for those whose voices need to be heard. Anglim Gilbert Gallery (1275 Minnesota St., San Francisco) presents The Brain Is Wider Than The Sky at booth 247 at Expo Chicago 2018 September 28 to 30 at Navy Pier. The title refers to the use of the sky as a metaphor for many parts of the human experience. The booth exhibition features work by: William Allan, Joan Brown, Bruce Conner, Jean Conner, Ala Ebtekar, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Clare Rojas, Canan Tolon, Catherine Wagner, and John Zurier. Derek Eller Gallery (300 Broome St., New York) will be at this year's Expo Chicago featuring work by Karl Wirsum at Expo Chicago 2018 September 28 to 30 at Navy Pier. They will be in Booth 100. Although the gallery calls New York home Wirsum lives and works in Chicago. The works being shown this weekend cover a period from 1964 to the present. Wisum's pieces are iconic, totemic. The works hear are on paper and highlight the importance of drawing in the artist's work. Gods And Monsters Are In My Basement by Sam Tufnell opens Saturday September 29, 2018 at Castle Fitzjohns Gallery (New York). There will be a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 29. Tufnell creates illuminated sculptures. This new show explores the similarities of past and present human behavior in relation to faith, religious belief and idol worship. His pieces are eye catching and memorable but the subtext is what really defines them. These "new gods" that Tufnell shows juxtapose pop culture and centuries old religious views. Rhona Hoffman Gallery (Chicago) will be at Expo Chicago 2018 September 28 to 30 at Navy Pier. They will be in booth 219. Alterity and The Exhibition Environment: Feminist History of Alternative Spaces in Chicago, a panel, takes place at 4 p.m. Friday September 28 and will feature Torkwase Dyson from the gallery. Find out more at the Expo Chicago website. McCormick Gallery (Chicago) will show work at Expo Chicago 2018 from September 28 to 30. The gallery has been exhibiting for over 30 years and, this year, will be in booth 255. Works on display this year will include new work and old and in various eclectic styles. A couple pieces are shown here. Other artists include (but are not limited to): Colleen Plumb, Perle Fine, Anna Kunz, Michael Hedges and many others. Vibes of Steel will play at Frosch & Portmann (53 Stanton St., New York) from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2018 in conjunction with Vicki Sher's Fountain. The exhibit runs until October 14 and is the artist's fourth with the gallery. The title comes from the last word of Gertrude Stein's Tender Buttons. The sentiment that everything is wrong, especially those parts of the world manipulated by mankind. The book finds its hope in the natural world. Artist and activist, Monica Jahan Bose will be exhibiting her work at a couple of locations in Norther California. First, in conjunction with the Sierra Club, at Women Leaders in Global Climate Action (an affiliate event of the Global Climate Summit) from 5 to 9 p.m, Thursday, September 13, 2018. at 111 Minna Gallery (111 Minna Street, San Francisco). Bose will also be on hand for a bilingual book talk, film screening and discussion with local activists at Napa Bookmine (964 Pearl Street, Napa) from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday September 15.
