Linda Ridgway: The Grand Anonymous runs from September 5 to October 12, 2013 at John Berggruen Gallery ( 228 Grant Ave, San Francisco). There will be a reception, with the artist, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 5. This is the Dallas-based artist's third solo show with the gallery. Ridgway makes bronze wall reliefs that are both cultural and autobiographical. She is trained as a printmaker but works in a variety of media and on a variety of scales. There is certainly something poetic in her work. She received her BFA from the Louisville School of Art and her MFA from Tulane. Gachi Prieto Gallery (Uriarte 1976, Palermo, Buenos Aires) opens Anima by Carolina Magnin. The exhibit opens August 15 and features highlights from the artist's solo show at the Emilio Caraffa Museum of Córdoba. Magnin uses slides, which have fallen into disuse in the digital age. She conserves old boxes of slides to begin in her work. She actually started many yeas ago with family slides. These days she collects from multiple sources. We also have some interviews from last year's Scope that we lost for awhile with Gachi Prieto that we haven't posted. We will do so shortly! Pieter Hugo's Kin, runs September 6 through October 19, 2013 at Yossi Milo Gallery (245 Tenth Avenue, NYC). There will be an opening reception with the artist from 6 to 8 Friday, September 6. This is the artists fourth exhibit with Yossi Milo. Kin, work produced in the past eight years, approaches issues such as racial diversity, colonization and economic disparity in Hugo's home, South Africa. These are the sort of subjects his work has often approached. These pieces range from portraits to landscapes and beyond. There is also a retrospective of Hugo's photographs, This Must Be The Place: Selected Works 2003-2011 on exhibit at the Ludwig Museum in Budapest. The exhibit then movies to Fotografiska, Stockholm (8/30 to 11/23, 2013) and Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon (3/28 to 6/1, 2014). The Rennaissance Society (Chicago) Annual Gala & Auction Takes Place Saturday, September 7, 20138/6/2013 The annual Renaissance Society gala and art auction this year also welcomes a new Executive Director, Solvieg Øvstebø.
