This Mexico City gallery shows work by young artists whose pieces all have a bit of the flavor of street art but bring to that something different.
For instance look closely at Ortiz Vega's work and you will see that it is embroidery.
Antennae Studio (Mexico City) showed work by Laura Ortiz Vega, Leandro Asoli, Gregorio Barrio and Andres Basurto at Pulse Miami 2013. The nice people at the booth explained the art and artists work (even after I literally tripped over a piece). Unfortunately I didn't take notes. This Mexico City gallery shows work by young artists whose pieces all have a bit of the flavor of street art but bring to that something different. For instance look closely at Ortiz Vega's work and you will see that it is embroidery. By Andres Basurto

ArtRageous Kids Center, sponsored by Miami Children's Museum runs at Art Wynwood February 15 to 17, 2014. The center provides a safe playroom for kids 3-13. While the parents check out the Fair the kids are introduced to art through activities: art exploration, puzzles, stories, games and more. The kids are supervised by the staff of the Miami Children's Museum. I sent my son there for summer camp two years when he was little. The center is open Saturday to Monday during fair hours. For more information or to pre-register call Anais at305-373-5437x124 or EMAIL. You can register in advance or when you get to the fair (note there is a capacity of 25). The center is free with Art Wynwood admission. Children myst be potty trained. You can enter up to three kids or three hours. Work included ranges from painting to sculpture to textiles to video-embedded digital prints (and more). Subject matter varies as well. The exhibit title crosses the exhortation "faster faster" with the process of Rasterizing--scanning an image before presentation. The exhibit is a sort of scan of the contemporary artistic landscape. The exhibition includes a full-color catalog. Damian Stamer's work was shown by the always interesting folks at Freight + Volume (New York). These pieces sort of look like sketches here but they are oil on panel. The detail and the sort of "windswept" feeling here is remarkable. These are works that really take you to a place (in this case, Lowel). He is a native of North Carolina with an impressive resume. You can find out more HERE. Waterhouse & Dodd ( London/New York) was started by Ray Waterhouse and Jonathan Dodd. The two first started working together and opened their first gallery in 1989. They now have to gallery spaces in London and two in New York. Among the artists shown by the gallery at Pulse Miami 2013 were Grayson Cox, Frank Webster and Anthony Miler. Cox is a New York-based artist who works in different media--printmaking, painting etc. He has a BFA from Indiana University and an MFA from Columbia. You can find out more about him HERE. Webster is a painter who works out of Brooklyn. He studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (BFA) and received his MFA from Rutgers. Find out more HERE. Miler creates paintings and drawings and the beautiful plant paintings below are his. My favorite of this bunch (for what that is worth). See more on him HERE. The Deepest Feeling Always Shows Itself In Silence, an exhibit of work by Pat Goslee and Jessica Van Brakle runs from February 13 to March 23, 2014 at Adah Rose Gallery (3766 Howard Ave Kensington, MD). There will be an opening vernissage from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, February 22. There will be live music by Bud Wilkinson. Goslee, based in Washington D.c., presents her latest works on canvas. The artist creates work that creates comforting spaces and viabrant energy. She uses patters, dripped paint and materials applied directly to the canvas. she has a BFA from the University of Georgia and a MFA from Catholic University. Van Brakle's landscapes are often dominated by cranes (of the construction variety rather than the birds). They are an homage to her grandfather's work in construction. The landscapes in these new paintings are more eabstract than in the past. Van Brakle is based in Maryland and has a BFA from Corcoran. Mike Weiss Gallery (520 W 24, New York), like most galleries, wants to sell you art. But they are being wonderfully direct and reminding all of you that you can get a 17x17 neon heart (in one of 12 colors), made by artist Thrush Holmes, in time for Valentines day. You can check more of these out (and order them) HERE.
