Dessy Di Lauro is an L.A.-based singer and songwriter. Her music is a mix of R&B, jazz and ragtime. Part of her aim is to bring the audience back to the Harlem heyday of ragtime jazz. Check out the video for Jump 'N' Jivin below. This, as usual, isn't a straight up revivalism. There is more modern in this than old time music. Di Lauro'second LP, This is Neo-Ragtime, came out in February (to coincide with Black History Month). It is nice to have a record that might get people wondering about what happened way back when....Lots of musical greats came out of that era. Dave Rawlings Machine is playing six shows this summer in June. Appearing with Rawlings will be Gillian Welch, John Paul Jones, Willie Watson and Paul Kowert.
