Marques Toliver Releases New Single, "Control" Off Upcoming LP, "Land Of CanAan"

Marques Toliver has a new single, Control. You can watch the video below or buy it at iTunes. His new record, Land of CanAan, comes out in the USA on May 14, 2013. A tour is planned but only one date is currently confirmed (May 2 at Mercury Lounge in NYC).

Think R&B meets classical for Toliver’s music. He is a classically trained violinist who later busked in NYC subways. He played live and in the studio with the likes of Grizzly Bear, Holly Miranda, Miles Benjamin and Anthony Robinson.

Curiously, although he splits his time between Antwerp, London and New York City, Toliver was born in that musical hub known as Daytona, Florida. For more on the artist head to marquestoliver.com. You can pre-order Land of CanAan HERE.

Oleander Releasing First LP In 8 Years, Touring In Support

It has been eight years since Oleander released a new record. But, they are quick to assure fans that they did not, in fact, break up. Proof of this comes with the release, on April 16, 2013, of the group’s latest record, Something Beautiful. The first single, the title track, is out now.

Kim Churchill Touring With Billy Bragg To Support New LP, "Details Of Distance"

Kim Churchill is heading up from down under to tour with Billy Bragg. Bragg’s tour is currently underway and dates are listed below. Churchill met the English singer and songwriter at the Winnipeg Folk Festival.

Churchill also has a new record, Details of Distance, coming out in the USA April 9. This is his third studio LP.

Mother Falcon Releasing "You Knew" In May, Offer Free Download

Mother Falcon was, this year, referred to as one of SXSW’s “essential moments.” I always figured the essential moments were watching some record company VP choke to death on his or her own vomit but my perceptions are skewed I suppose.

ANYWAY, this band is a fascinating one. Their debut record, Alhambra, caome out in 2011 and their latest, You Knew, comes out May 7, 2013. The band has an indiegogo project funding this record and you can check it out HERE.

Emily Wells Releasing Acoustic Reworking Of "Mama," Touring

Emily Wells is releasing an acoustic reworking of her 2012 LP, Mama. The new record, Mama Acoustic Recordings, comes out (and there is vinyl) June 11 on Partisan Records. Wells, based in NYC, is also heading out on a tour (dates below).

When you think of wells, by the way, acoustic versions usually do not spring to mind. Her music is usually a layer of oddball sounds. In this case she sort of recorded the acoustic version…by accident.

Shannon Wright is releasing a new LP, In Film Sound, May 7, 2013 on Ernest Jenning Record Co. You can check out a track, Caustic Light, below.

Fans of Shipping News may want to note that the rhythm section include the drummer and bassist from the band. Kevin Ratterman recorded it—he has worked with My Morning Jacket, Maserati and Andrew Bird.

Wright has been around with her powerful songwriting for years. She also plays a mean guitar but this is somehow subtle music she makes. Give a listen and hope she tours.

GoogaMooga 2013 Offers Music, Food, Libations And Much More, May 17-19, 2013

GoogaMooga 2013 takes place in Brooklyn May 17 to 19. Let's just say, right up front, that there is a lot going on here--the band schedule is listed below but the list of participating restaurants, breweries, wineries and more is far too massive to list (100 wines, 85 restaurants and 75 beers).

Tickets to the Friday concert and the VIP Cocktail Experience on May 18 and 19 go on sale Thursday March 28 at Noon EST. Complimentary general admission tickets for Saturday and Sunday will be available in an online giveaway April 1 through April 3. These tickets are given at random and guests will get an email before April 10.
