Mark Lanegan Signs To Vagrant Records, Hear "I'm Not The Loving Kind" Now, European Shows In July6/26/2013 Vagrant Records is home to some of the most interesting and exciting bands and solo artists around today. They just signed another one. Mark Lanegan has signed to Vagrant and will be releasing a new LP of cover tunes, Imitations, on September 17, 2013. You can check out the song, I'm Not The Loving Kind, below via Soundcloud. Lanegan says that the inspiration for this record is the music his parents played when he was a kid: Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Perry Como and others. A record to look forward to in the Fall. And by the way? It is about time current singers gave Andy Williams his due. Tour (UK and Europe Festivals)

You can listen in, live, via Youtube below or by going HERE. The band’s new LP, The Weight of Your Love, comes out on July 2, 2013. Sting Releasing New LP, "The Last Ship" September 24, 2013--Play Under Same Title Out In 20146/5/2013 Sting has a new record, The Last Ship, set for release September 24, 2013 (the day before internationally so if you really want it? Fly to Europe!). The music is inspired by Sting's play of the same name. It is all about self-discovery and homecoming. The play will debut on Broadway next year. The play specifically is about the collapse of the shipbuilding industry n Newcastle--something areas in the Mid Atlantic States here will find familiar. It sounds like more serious and moving subject matter than the recent "recycle a band's music into a bad play" trend You can get the release digitally or as 12 song version and a two disc version (20 songs). The 12 song version wil be available on vinyl. You can pre-order physical copies now at www.amazon.com/sting. Strange Talk, out of Australia, have just signed a deal with Wind Up Records. The band’s debut record, Cast Away, comes out August 20, 2013. You can download a track, Another Day, from the band HERE. I opened this because the subject line of the press release email compared them to Daft Punk meets Cut Copy. Listening to the band that seems an apt comparison (more or less). The new record was mixed by Tony Hoffer who has worked with Phoenix and M83, excepting a few songs mixed by Eliot James whose credits include work with Two Door Cinema Club and Bloc Party. A U.S. tour is in the offing. Independent Project Records is back. The innovative label is re-emerging with a three CD re-mastered package from Red Temple Spirits on June 11, 2013. The release includes three releases from the band. IPR was founded in 1980 and was started as a class project at UCLA’s Fine Arts Department. It was way for founder, Bruce Licher, to release his own music in artistic packaging but it became more than that. Bands such as Savage Republic, Licher’s own Scenic and many others called the label home. The reborn label will be reissuing out of print titles but they will also be releasing new material. Artistic music in innovative packaging will surely follow. The Red Temple Spirits release will be limited to 1000 numbered copies and feature the LPs: Dancing To Restore An Eclipsed Moon , If Tomorrow I Were Leaving For Lhasa and I Wouldn’t Stay a Minute More... Sun Records (Memphis legend, music legend) has joined forces with a new legend, Third Man Records. The first three releases from this truly amazing collaboration are Bear Cat by Rufus Thomas, Just Walking in the Rain by The Prisonaires and Get Rhythm by Johnny Cash. This disparate selection of songs ranges from old-school R&B, Sun's first big hit from The Prisonaires and the original A-side for Cash's hit, I Walk The Line. The releases have the sun logo and label design and remain faithful to the original 45s. These singles are just the beginning of the partnership and are available individually or as a bundle. There will be limited edition versions with yellow and black splatter vinyl (sun-ray vinyl!). There will be 150 of each limited edition and 100 of these will be sold via the Rolling Stone Record Store May 28, 29 and 30th. This will be an ongoing partnership between Sun and Third Man and future releases are already in the works. Pre-orders for all three initial release (available for purchase individually or as part of a bundle) begin today, with an official release date of May 21st. The 28th sees the sale of the limited Cash single at Sun Records in Memphis. On the 29th Rufus Thomas single will be on sale in Louisville at Please & Thank You. On the 30th The Prisonaires limited will be sold at Luna Records in Indianapolis. Fifty copies of the limited editions will go randomly in orders of the standard edition vinyl from the Third Man website. Fossil Collective, from the UK, sign to Vagrant Records. Their LP, Tell Where I Lie, is out now (on Vagrant and Dirty Hit Records). The band is currently touring Europe and soon hits the road in North America supporting The Boxer Rebellion. Dates are below. The band has only been around a couple of years so their rise, if not meteoric, has still been quick. The video below has over 200,000 hits. That track, Let It Go, was the title track of the band's debut EP. For more on the band head to www.fossilcollective.com. Tour

Masaki Batoh, the man behind Ghost, is coming to the USA to play some Brain Pulse Music. Rather than me explaining this I strongly suggest you watch the two videos below. Top is the music, below the tour dates is an instructional video. Batoh, an accupuncturist in addition to an experimental musician, conceived this project to bring together the spirit and the body. The entire recording, released last year, was made using a Brain Pulse Machine. Simply put? It takes bio-electric functions in the brain and turns it into music. The music comes from brain waves. The music was interupted by tragedy--the terrible earthquake that shook Japan on March 11, 2011 took place during the recording. Rolling blackouts, evacuations an fear of radioactivity and the deaths of thousands devastated the nation. After this patients came to see Batoh with anxiety and his effort to use electronics and music to reconcile spirit and body became more urgent. All of the seven tracks on the record are a sort of prayer and requiem All proceeds from the record go to assist disaster victims through the Japan Red Cross.
