photo by Deirde O'Callaghan _ The Kooks tour begins on November 15. Not sure why I am even posting this as many of the dates are already sold out. What is the point of telling you if you cannot get tickets (except from a scalper…never buy from them..and “brokers” are scalpers). Anyway the band’s latest record, Junk of the Heart, is out and they are supporting it. They have been and will be all over the late night tv shows in the next few days. The band has played with Primal Scream and collaborated with Morrissey and Mark Ronson. This new record, co-produced by Edwyn Collins, is their first new material in five years. The band consists of Barrie Cadogan, Lewis Wharton and Virgil Howe (I tell you this so I can let you know his dad is Steve Howe from Yes. I don’t think Little Barrie’s songs are all 12 minutes long and everyone gets a solo like his old man’s outfit). Anyway, the record comes out February 28 and the band will be touring (I suspect in the USA) in the Spring. They also have a new video, Surf Hell, to whet your appetite. click for more info _ Anders Trentemøller has a new video for Sycamore Feeling (Marie Fisker Version), a track from the recently released double disc, Reworked/Remixed (out on the Danish artists own label, In My Room). The video features Trentemøller wandering through the thoughts, and apartments, of characters in the videos. I do that sometimes myself. That is why I have to wear this electronic monitoring anklet and stay 500 feet away from some people. Trentemøller played SXSW, Ultra, Coachella and more this year. He was also touring the rest of the USA heavily. The new record features mixers for other artists and other artists reworking Trentemøller tracks. Artists taking part include Modeselektor/Thom Yorke, UNKLE, I Blame Coco, Depeche Mode, Efterklang, Mew, Kasper Bjørke and others. _ Anna Vogelzang’s Canary In A Coal Mine, comes out February 28, 2012 on Paper Anchor Music. Vogelzang, out of Madison,WI, is just finishing up a 40 date tour (the few remaining shows are below...one is tonight!) You can check out a single from the record, Die Trying, HERE. The new record has a stellar cast of musicians with Franz Nicolay (Hold Steady), Brian Viglione (Dresden Dolls), Todd Sickafoose (Righteous Babe & Ani DiFranco) and cellist, Hope Price (Pearl & The Beard). The record was produced by James Frazee who has worked with Blondie and Betty LaVette. Vogelzang is originally from Boston but is now of Madison. She has toured a good deal—self booking, which requires some intestinal fortitude and, often, a big stick. _ Tour
November 10 - Champaign, IL - SoDo Theatre 11 - Indianapolis, IN - House Party 12 - Bloomington, IN - The Bishop Bar photo by Bekah Cope _ OK so I am totally against plugging the Holidays before Thanksgiving. But I am going to make an exception for Tristen, who is releasing her Deck The Halls 7 inch for the holidays (Frosty the Snowman and Winter is Blue bw Blue Christmas). Part of the reason I am doing this is because you, fans of Tristen, can help fund the project via Kickstarter. You get all sorts of neat things by helping fund this—handmade journals, signed prints, a knitted scarf and even a private concert. Tristen is also heading out on tour in December with Justin Townes Earle (and some headliner dates here and there. Tour

If you are not familiar with the group, first of all you should be ashamed and second you should know they are an acapella choir from South Africa. They appeared on Paul Simon’s Graceland album and, here, Simon returns the favor. Also on the record are Taj Mahal, Dolly Parton, Sarah McLachlan, Josh Groban, Emmylou Harris, Lou Rawls, Natalie Merchant and a slew of others. The CD is titled, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Friends. If you think you know what this is going to sound like…I caution you, you are probably wrong. Photo by Dusdin Condren The immensely talented songwriter Sharon Van Etten is following up 2010’s epic with a new release due on February 7, 2012. The new record, Van Etten’s third, will be titled Tramp. She will be touring to support the release and you can find dates below. I have managed to miss the seemingly always touring Van Etten at least three times in recent years. Just because I am a pinhead doesn’t mean you need be one. Make note of the dates. Apparently Van Etten was sort of “homeless” during the 14 months of sessions for this record. Apparently the closest thing to home was the garage studio of Aaron Dessner (The National). Shows on the upcoming tour will include dates with Shearwater and The War On Drugs. Tour

Now they have a video for the track. It is directed by Alex Goddard and focuses on Australian bike culture. See? I didn’t even know there was an Australian bike culture. I thought they just threw shrimp on the barbie and said G’day all the time. Check out the video…It is pretty cool. |
