The Ravonettes have been around for ten years. They also have a new record, Observator, coming out September 11 on Vice Records. Tour dates are below and more dates WILL be added. The band makes a sort of off beat pop music, often hollowed out by reverb. A melancholy seems to infuse the music but it is subtle. Observator was recorded at Sunset Sounds Studios with Richard Gottehrer. He has also worked with Richard Hell, Blondie and the Go-Gos (as well as a previous Ravonettes record). For more on the band (and I am writing like you haven’t heard of them..of COURSE you have…) head to their website, www.theravonettes.com. Tour

The record, Circulo, is a mix of the samba beat, American soul and more. The record is in both English and Portuguese (the language she spoke in her home in Chicago when she was a girl). Her record will be available via iTunes but you can get a CD for $9.99. You can also listen to her single, Janela, below. Find out more on her website, carlamusic.com. Kimbra’s debut record, Vows, came out May 22 in the USA and has been something of a hit. It debuted at 14 on Billboard. Who knows what the charts mean anymore. Nonetheless it is better to be HIGH on the charts than not on them at all. Tickets go on sale June 15. You can find out more at www.kimbramusic.com. (you can also get a free copy of a liver version of the song, Two Way Street, on the site for the price of your email address). The music is a mix of R&B, funk (hmmm) and pop. Kimbra is originally from New Zealand and her record went platinum in New Zealand and Australia (that means it sold 8 copies). The US version of the record has some additional tracks including one, Warrior, featuring Mark Foster of Foster the People and A-Trak. As you will note, Kimbra tours opening for Foster the People before her solo North American tour. Opening for Foster the People:

They play rock n roll music and they have a new live video out. It is a tad rough sound wise but you will get the basic idea. You can find out more about the band, sign up for their mailing list, pledge your undying devotion etc at www.thekut.co.uk. Should you feel inspired you might still be able to get a copy of the band's latest 7 inch at the Criminal Records website. Cloud Seeding is the brainchild of Kevin Serra. Serra began with an idea of making singles with vocalists he admires. The first was with the lovely and talented Melissa Nadler. This, the second single, Newer Testament, is with Baltimore’s Greg Hatem (Tulsa, Heart of Hearts). Hatem is working on his debut LP for Heart of Hearts. It should be out before the end of 2012. For more info go HERE. photo by Ricky Powell Blonds, a duo originally from Florida but recording in Brooklyn, have their first record, The Bad Ones, coming out August 7. Check out a video for the track, Run, below. The record was produced by Nicolas Vernhes who has also worked with Spoon, Deerhunter and Dirty Projectors. The band released an ep, Dark Roots, in 2011. A tour is planned and dates will be forthcoming. For more info head to their Bandcamp page which has links to other places you can stalk them. Tony Lucca must live out of his suitcase. The guy is always touring. He was also a recent finalist on the show “The Voice.” Although why this guy should have to appear on a contest judged by a bunch of nimrods is beyond me. I saw him play a year or so ago—took some photos too. He did a version of Billy Joel’s Vienna and I was floored. I mean it is a GOOD song once you get past the whole “Billy Joel” thing. He is a great live performer even if you are not all about the singer songwriter thing. You can buy tickets to the dates below which go on sale today. Get them from the venues or at www.tonylucca.com. Tour

The band is also playing a series of shows in their Southern California home—including a residency at Disney (where we HOPE they will not be forced to wear mouse ears). The band has licensed their music to a slew of sporting events and television shows like Degrassi and Necessary Roughness. They have also been featured in commercials. Good to see bands making some money for their work isn’t it? The second ep, entitled Winter, comes out, suitably, after Fall but no date is announced Shows

I am not sure if this is the first time I have heard of a director’s cut of a video. But I do not recall another instance. The group’s tour starts in earnest in the fall but Festival dates are a preview. They will be at Bonarroo beginning today and later in the summer at the Outside Lands Festival. The band’s latest record, Circles Around The Sun, come out August 21, 2012. You can pre-order it (in a deluxe vinyl edition, 28 page hard cover book.. CD …and find all sorts of other cool stuff like autographed photos) at the band’s webstore. This is the band’s first studio effort in 12 years and the band are donating one dollar per pre-order to Amplifying Education. An additional dollar from ticket sales on the upcoming tour will likewise go to the cause. Given the size of some of the venues? This ain’t chump change.
