For more information on the band, the tour and kicking ass head to the 16 Second Stare website.
In addition to releasing the new, eponymous, record 16 Second Stare have put out a new single, Bonnie And Clyde. They are also going out on tour with Cold and Nonpoint. Previously the band have made a rock n roll name touring with Crüefest 2. This is certainly a metal band to keep an eye on. In their press singer/drummer Chris Davis talks about how the band used to think about radio play but that went out the window and they just decided to “kick ass.”

Passion Pit, already out on the road, will be releasing a deluxe edition of Manners on April 13. Manners, the band’s debut effort is expanded with three extra tracks, including a Cranberries cover.
Manners was on a load of Best of 2009 lists, including NPR, Pitchfork, Time Out NY, New York Post and a slew more. The record, at last check, had sold over 140,000 copies which is no mean feat in this day and age. For those not in the know, Passion Pit is the brainchild of Michael Angelakos and now features the musical talents of Ian Hultquist, Ayad Al Adhamy (we wrote about Adhamy's new label earlier), Nate Donmoyer and Jeff Apruzzese. Check out the Passion Pit website. Guitarist, John 5, has a pretty impressive guitar resume. He’s played with Paul Stanley, Marilyn Manson, Meatloaf, Rob Zombie, Filter, Static-X, Scorpions and more. On May 5 he releases his fifth solo CD, The Art of Malice on 60 Cycle Hum/Rocket Science Ventures. There is some sort of synergy in that. John 5’s 5th CD. Don’t you think? I had occasion to interview John 5 for gearwire.com regarding music gear stuff—including his signature Telecaster . He was a soft spoken guy who had a lot of useful stuff to say and he is a great guitarist and he really defies genre classifications on his solo records. Sure, it is rock (duh) but trying to pigeon hole it on the basis of who he has worked with really is fruitless. He is well worth a listen, especially for aspiring guitarists. For more info check out the John 5 Website. I bet you didn’t know Ayad Al Adhamy of Passion Pit had his own label, Black Bell Records..
He does and the first act he signed is the Welsh indie rock outfit, The Joy Formidable. Unsurprisingly the band, being signed to a label, are putting out a record (strange, I know). The release, an 8 song effort, is due May 4th and titled, A Balloon Called Moaning. A trio, The Joy Formidable, is made up of Ritzy Bryan, Rhyddian Dafydd and Matt Thomas (who was added when t Bryan and Dafydd relocated from Wales to London. The band have toured extensively in the UK with notables such as Passion Pit, Editors and The Temper Trap. They have also played in the NY area with Terminal 5 and at numerous festivals. A U.S. tour is in the works to support the CD following a UK tour in the spring. You can also get in touch with the bad at their website. Awhile back I had a chance to chat with some of the guys (Alex Rose and Jake Sinder) from Minus the Bear for Gearwire.com (here is one of the three interviews, this one with Alex Rose). They seemed like nice guys. And now they have a new record and a North American tour in the offing. These guys seem to tour a great deal. The new CD, Omni, on Dangerbird Records is out May 4. The new single, My Time, is now available as a free download. The tour begins April 19 in Spokane, WA and lasts 6 weeks. To get all you Minus the Bear fans rocking in advance you can download the My Time single at www.omnithealbum.com . See I told you they were nice. The disc is produced by Joe Chiccarelli who has also worked with The White Stripes and My Morning Jacket. Killola really work out of their garage. Or maybe they do not. But they use the term "garage" a good deal in their press. And perception is what really matters. I have a fondness, at least for the term “garage band" ergot I am posting this info on their tour.... Yes, the band will, however, be leaving that safe, oily environ and heading out to play for you, in your garage. O.k., actually they will be playing at a venue near you on the Buy the Milk tour. The “Buy the Milk” tour is in support of the new, self released recording from the band, Let’s Get Associated. Shouldn’t be the “Getting’ Associated” tour? I dunno. I am easily confused. Hell I cannot tell why fans of the Auburn Tigers cheer for the “War Eagles.” The band members are also producers of an upcoming film titles, Girltrash: All Night Long. Sounds like every date I had in my 20s. Busy folks. For tour dates, free downloads and more go to the Killola website. . Beginning on April 15--an inauspicious day here in the USA unless you like poverty--Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros head out on the road. Maybe they are just trying to cheer up the folks in Solana, California after tax day's horrors (the first date is in Solana). The tour includes stops at a number of festivals: Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Sasquatch! Festival, Bonnaroo and finally at Telluride Bluegrass Festival.
The band has been out on the road,, worldwide, for a year. And they are not stopping anytime soon I bet. Get out to see them. You can get advance tickets here. The latest album, and fifth studio effort, from Ozomatli, Fire Away, comes out April 20. You can order your copy now. If you have a spare $199 you can get a deluxe version of the album and a ton of extras: Tte CD, a vinyl copy, a digital download. Signed artwork, a Ozomatli Zippo lighter, shirts and more. Hell if you buy this the guys from the band will come over to your house and clean the baseboards (I made one of these things up).
Last year Ozomatli had a great deal on their plate. The band was part of a U.S. State Department trip to Southeast Asia for Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s Annual Award Gala, held in Washington DC in September, 2009. The band is not slowing down in 2010. They performed at SXSW and have performances planned with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops Orchestra ( as part of the 125th Pops Anniversary Celebration in May). Further outings on behalf of the State Department are also on the agenda (this time to China and Mongolia). Pretty impressive stuff. For more details on the new record and more go to the Ozomatli website! You think YOUR alt rock band has a hard time? The cops show up because some old lady across the street called in a noise complaint? You got a band review in some local rag run by a guy who remembers when Sticky Fingers came out and never tires of telling you about it? Did your mom make you clean the basement where you practice?
Whatever! Iranian rock act, Hypernova, could have wound up with a public flogging. Nonetheless the band played a number of secret gigs in Iran before coming to the US to be able to play openly. Their debut album, aptly titled, Through the Chaos comes out April 6, 2010. The single Fairy Tales is already out. Lead singer Raam says the scene in Iran is intense with amazing musicians who possess a burning passion for their art. They would have to have passion? How many rock n rollers from the North America or Western Europe would risk their freedom and their bodies for rock? I know tons of them and none spring readily to mind. On this basis alone, Hypernova is worth a listen. The record was produced by Herwig Maurer and mixed by Sean Beaven both have impressive resumes. Check out the Hypernova website. C Check . As Tall As Lions have toured opening for the likes of Cage the Elephant , Minus the Bear and Mutemath. This, most recent, foray into the world of headlining begins April 6 in Chicago.
But it is more than a just a tour supporting their latest recording, You Can't Take It With You, it is an attempt at educating young rock n rollers. The band seems almost apologetic, saying they don't want to be "preachy." Hell I say if you are trying to do even a little bit to make the world a better place shout it from the mountaintops. It isn't like you took cash from Union Carbide, The KKK or the Catholic Church or anything. The tour also features a stop at the Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival on April 16. Now, back to where ACE fits into this. The band and ACE want fans to "Do One Thing" (D.O.T.) for the environment. They use the example of grabbing a steel water bottle and not using plastc. Having worked on large tours before I can tell you; a band uses a mountain of plastic. The band will be handing these bottles out and useing them as well (no word on the numbers they are handing out. If you just cannot do this for some bizarre reason the band encourages you find your own D.O.T. The band's singer, Daniel Nigro, is going to endeavor to generate zero waste on the tour. There is a scatalogical joke in there somewhere but I am not going to make it. As Tall As Lions have already begun posting webisodes of their battle against pointless trash. You can text your D.O.T to the band at 30644. To keep the fans updated on their new waste-free life on the road, the band will be posting webisodes frequently on all of their websites (listed below). The first one will be posted on Thursday, April 1. One last thing about ACE, they are a non-profit dedicated to educating folks about the science behind climate change and encourage people to work to reduce carbon emissions in their own lives and communities. For more on As Tall As Lions (including tour dates) go to their website/myspace page. For more on ACE, check out their website. |
