Industrial/industrial rock pioneers Skinny Puppy have a new record, Weapon, coming out May 28, 2013 on Metropolis Records. It is odd to call them “industrial” because they sort of defy that sort of categorization. Their music has always been, and is, experimental in its nature and a quick listen to Weapon shows they keep the edge—and the social context of their music even after almost three decades.
The record is an examination of America’s gun culture. You see the glorification juxtaposed against the damage a weapon can do. The record is not simple in its examination of the subject.
