Picture
Black tape for a blue girl are in the middle of a Kickstarter for a deluxe edition of their 1989 release, ashes in the brittle air.

Ethereal ambient band, black tape for a blue girl, isn't a band that rests on their laurels. New recordings frequently appear but the band has also taken the odd look back at past efforts. In this case 1989's ashes in the brittle air is being remastered and the final release will include six unreleased songs from the era.

Fans of ethereal, dreamy, music should take a look at this fundraising project. You can do so HERE.

Mames Babegenush, from Denmark, bring their Balkan-klezmer jazz to the USA for eight shows. The dates begin August 25 and are listed below.

The band creates a unique fusion of styles from their Scandanavian roots to dance music to klezmer and jazz. There is a mix of exuberance and melancholy in the work. Every few years bands try to ressurect Klezmer music with varying levels of success. This band is perhaps, musically, the most successful of them all. They've even played at Carnegie Hall.

And well all know what it takes to get there.

A new LP is in the offing. Listen to some music below and keep up to date at  www.mames.dk.

Black Tape For A Blue Girl Have A New Kickstarter For Their Upcoming Release "To Touch The Milky Way"

Picture
Black Tape For A Blue Girl have a new Kickstarter for their upcoming release, To Touch The Milky. Like many underground artists the group is funding the
release (as they've funded other recent releases) via crowdfunding. Some bemoan the new state of the music industry and its finances but btfbg's Sam Rosenthal sees an upside.

"I did a radio interview at Portland’s Xray.fm on Monday; I haven’t done an in-the-studio interview in a while. DJ Bob Ham asked about getting to know so many of the backers over the course of my nine crowdfunding campaigns. In the 90s, when Black Tape For A Blue Girl’s Remnants of a deeper purity was the most successful release on Projekt, the CDs shipped out to Projekt’s distributor, out into the void," he says. "I felt disconnected from the people who loved what I create. Now I know their names, and answer their questions. It was great selling 16,000 CDs back in the day, but it’s also great being directly in touch with people who value the art at $50 or even $500. That’s pretty great, too."

Like many btfbg records this one is a first person narrative of an individual in conflict.

"I see the characters in the seven songs as being at a point where something has to give, something has to change, they are sort of hitting a wall in life and they need to try to get beyond that. There’s also this other thematic idea: one of the song’s is Samsara, which is a Buddhist idea that life is a cycle where you come back again and again to live this existence and maybe you understand a little bit better how to get through life, or how to get out of the sorrow of life. I picture the photos I’m shooting with Mercy for the cover and art cards as displaying this characters coming back again and again."

The title, to Rosenthal, reflects a feeling of longing and hopefulness balanced agains the recognition of the absurdity of actually "touching the Milky Way."

Teeel is set to release his third LP, Hydrostatic, September 9, 2014. You can check out the track, Disk Go, below. Think a mix of Tom Tom Club and Chromeo. It is a bit more on the house-y side of things.

Teeel (aka Jim Smith) , out of New Jersey, creates music that refers to some of the greats in electronic music. It really sticks to no specific sub genre. Give a listen.

There is a new music project out there called Mysteries. They have a, New Age Music Is Here, coming October 28, 2014. In the spirit of the name they band is keeping the members of the group anonymous. It is a time honed gimmick. People start wondering; WHO are these guys?

Of course if it turns out they are not Bono and Jay Z people are a tad disappointed. The music isn't new age...its more a vaguely pop rock n roll vibe.

Listen to the track, Newly Thrown, and engage in wild speculation!

Los Angeles' The Mercy Beat have a new remix single, Sweet, out for your perusal (you...you personally). The track is from the band's recently released, self-titled, debut. This Soto Voce remix is by Miguel De Vivo of Villains. I am unsure if Soto Voce is his remixing name or the name of the remix version (or both). I leave that to you.

The band includes Sam Endicott (ex frontman of The Bravery), Matty Bennett and Ian Smith.

The Turtles 45 RPM Vinyl Singles Collection comes out September 16, 2014.  Everyone knows the breezy, summery #1 hit that is Happy Together but how about the almost Velvet Underground-y Outside Chance?

Then there are the hits from back when that you don't hear so much these days (Elenore and She'd Rather Be With Me).

Vinyl enthusiasts and fans of the era should be joining fans of the latest 60s revival in snapping up copies of this box set.
