Can, founded by Irwin Schmidt, in Germany in the late 1960s. They were forerunners of what came to be called Krautrock but pinning a genre on them was a little tough. They were sort of a weird, electronic jam band. But, that said, they also made some pretty accessible music. They are one of those bands whose most ardent fans also formed bands.
But enough of the history lesson.
The Lost Tapes was compiled by Schmidt and Jono Podmore. It will come with a poster and 28 page booklet with notes by Schmidt and Ian Harrison. These tapes were found when the Can Studio was sold. and the new owners preserved everything. When they took the studio apart they found the tapes. No one was sure what was on them until Schmidt became involved. And it wasn't junk but rather a collection of never-used film soundtracks, shelved tracks and pieces not used on Can albums.
The tracks date form 1968-77. Hear more below.
