Rice stopped with the "noise" genre when everyone and their grandmother started doing it, often substituting enthusiasm and wishful thinking for talent. Rice recently decided that there was room for the genre he pioneered to grow and expand. He feels that the time is ripe for a re-imagining of "noise." Good for him. A European tour is upcoming.
The often controversial Rice who became something of a lightning rod for his fascist (but non-racist) political beliefs. He gets tagged as a Nazi but he is really just someone who seems to think the strong should rule the weak. Sort of a Satanic Ayn Rand with a sampler. Many years ago I was playing a festival and so was Rice. I "got in his face" about his alleged Nazi beliefs. He calmly explained, essentially, that he was not a racist. I wish I could recall more of the conversation. I used to drink some back in those days and have to say that I was the obnoxious one in the conversation. Rice could have crushed my head like a grape were he a violent man. He has also been associated with the Church of Satan.
So was Sammy Davis.
His return to making noise is an interesting turn of events for his fans.
