On November 9, 2010 Stax Records releases the live performance from the TV show In Session, where Albert King and his protégé Stevie Ray Vaugh played together. The DVD/CD has three additional performances not seen on previous video versions. This was the last time the two played together before Vaughn’s untimely death. Albert King passed away two years later of a heart attack.

Girl in a Coma, out of San Antonio and signed to Joan Jett & Kenny Laguna’s Blackheart Records, are releasing a collection of the three Adventures in Coverland 7 inch records released in April. The full length version of Adventures in Coverland comes out (with three new tracks) on October 19. I am not including a photo on this one. Why? Cause the band's website's publicity photos cannot be copied (note to bands...DUH!) Instead I include a photo of the Girl in a Coma tote bag. You can see the video for their version of Patsy Cline’s Walkin’ After Midnight below. One of the new covers is of Buffalo Springfield’s For What It’s Worth and a new Girl in a Coma track, Yo Oigo (which was written for the movie, Machete, I recall thinking, "I really want the soundtrack" while watching it). They have toured with Morrissey, Sia, The Pogues, Cyndi Lauper and more. Four Four LetterThe Glass, of NYC & Berlin, have just released a new single, Four Four Number. It was co-produced by Jagz Kooner who has worked with Primal Scream and Manic Street Preachers. You can check it about above. The track and remixes are available now at Beatport.
The Band’s new record, At Swim Two Birds, comes out November 16 on Plant Music in North America. An European release will happen in 2011. The press release for this was really long but I eliminated most of it because there were too many names. I apologize to all the folks who played on and contributed to the recording that I cut out. I feel kind of bad. Ben + Vesper, are a husband/wife duo know for their beautiful and persona music—especially their debut, All This Could Kill You. The songwriting duo have now released, after four years, a second record, Honors. The PR talks of their unusual arrangements and complexity. But offered no samples. They are an enigma wrapped in a MYSTERY. The record and group nonetheless sound interesting and you should keep an eye open for the release of Honors on January 25, 2011 on Sounds Familyre. A video from their earlier release is below. Check out the Ben + Vesper Website. Gordon Voidwell, on tour with Mayer Hawthorne, has a new video to go with his R&B flavored single, Ivy League Circus. The video director, The Wilderness, has also worked with Passion Pit, Antipop Consortium and Spank Rock. The Voided Checks Mixtape, out since last fall, has gained Voidwell a ton of attention for his own tracks and material he has worked on for others. He’s produced Das Racist and done a Twin Shadow remix for I Can’t Wait. He also worked with Iron Solomon and Brahms. Voidwell is doing a two night art, music and dance event entitled, Who Killed Andy Warhol? Who Shot Biggie Smalls? at the Apollo Theater on October 15 & 16. 10/06 San Antonio, TX @ Korova*

The recording comes out on Western Vinyl and was inspired by a cover of the Wire song, Heartbeat. Not sure exactly what that means but the press release mentions it and I slavishly duplicate the contents of every press release.
You can also stream the album at AOL’s Spinners Listening Party. Callers have played opening for a variety of bands and are now getting ready to head out on the road in the USA and in Europe. Hellmouth say they come from the pit of hell. They are not being hyperbolic. They are from Detroit. The music is some serious rock n roll. Old school thrash has never sounded better. The album comes out (vinyl, digital and CD) in November on, Paper + Plastick.
If you want to hear some music in advance click HERE. The band discusses making the record HERE. Gravestone Skylines is the band’s second effort and is an apocalyptic, angry record that displays rather than exorcizes demoms. They also say they do not see themselves as a band but as an entity, Hellmouth, that is a “flesh-eating virus you just can’t stop.” The will also be touring, beginning October 22. 10/ 22 Lansing, MI @ The Loft 10/29 Gainesville, FL @ TBD (The Fest) 11/19 Lansing, MI @ Macs Bar 11/26 Detroit, MI @ Magic Stick (CD release show) 12/26 Deroit, MI @ Shelter Chip a Tooth (Spoil a Smile)Spectrals release, Spectrals Extended Play, came out yesterday digitally. Above is a track from the ep, Chip a Tooth (Spoil a Smile). The collection is of previously unreleased material. A physical release will be out in January. The band is soul and doo-wop amalgam and this ep gives a broad view of the music—from dreamy to straight up rock n roll. . A video for another of the ep tracks, Peppermint, is the video below. I'll Build You a FireIceland’s Seabear are heading out on a U.S. fall tour. They just released a remix from FM Belfast of their single, I’ll Build You a Fire off the record, We Built a Fire (I sense a theme). The track is above for your perusal.
Seabear were in the USA this spring and performed at South by Southwest. They also toured Europe . For those who are fans of Grey’s Anatomy, they also had a song featured on that show. Tour Dates 10/16 - New York, NY - Highline Ballroom 10/18 - Denver, CO - Larimer Lounge 10/19 - Salt Lake City, UT - Kilby Court 10/22 - Seattle, WA - Showbox w/ Blitzen Trapper 10/23 - Portland, OR - Mississippi Studios 10/25 - San Francisco. CA - Independent 10/26 - Los Angeles, CA - Troubadour 10/27 - San Diego, CA - Casbah Sir Bob remix of Chemical Brothers "Dissolve"The Bloody Beetroots are heading out on a North American Tour (beginning in Miami tomorrow, 10/13). They also have made available a Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo remix of The Chemical Brothers track, Dissolve. Quite a transformation and you can listen to it above.
On this tour Sir Bob will have a full band on hand, The Bloody Beetroots DeathCrew 77. Something of an inelegant moniker but we expect it will be an interesting show. Bob will not just be mixing on the tour but playing multiple instruments. Bob Rifo appeared in 2007 creating dance music that crosses multiple genres. Usually this means there is a Slayer sample next to a Herbie Hancock bass-riff. Not in this case. Seriously, they do mix genres with some success—from funk to punk to classical. This new incarnation is said to be a return to Rifo’s “punk roots.” What the hell here is the complete tour schedule- The Bloody Beetroots DeathCrew 77 Fall Tour October 13: Miami Beach, FL @ Mansion Night Club (Exclusive DJ Set) 15: New York, NY @ Webster Hall 16: Montreal, QC @ Telus Theatre 17: Toronto, ON @ Guvernment 18: Chicago, IL @ Lincoln Hall 21: Dallas, TX @ House of Blues 22: Austin, TX @ La Zona Rosa 23: Houston, TX @ House of Blues 26: Denver, CO @ Ogden Theatre 28: El Paso, TX @ Club 101 29: Tempe, AZ @ Marquee Theatre 30: Los Angeles, CA @ Shrine Auditorium/Expo Center 31: San Diego, CA @ House of Blues November 02: San Francisco, CA @ Mezzanine 03: Portland, OR @ Roseland Theater 04: Seattle, WA @ Showbox at the Market 05: Vancouver, BC @ Commodore Ballroom 06: Vancouver, BC @ Commodore Ballroom http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjkhnuCdBd8 |
