The Chicago Food Film Fest is coming up shortly. It runs from November 18 through 20th at Kendall College and Intelligentsia Roasting Works. This is the festival where you can, literally, taste what is on the screen. The festival is produced in association with the James Beard Foundation and benefits The Good Food Project. You can get tickets, see a full schedule (too big for me to run here) and--also important—find out the FOOD they will have at each event by visiting www.thefoodfilmfestival.com. The New Media Film Festival has been dubbed “Sundance for the Facebook crowd by one publication. I admit to having no idea what that means. But I do know that the New Media Film Festival allows filmmakers using new forms of media a venue to show their creations—be it in San Francisco or Los Angeles. The 2nd San Francisco New Media Film Festival will consist of 45 films/filmmakers, panesl with new media CEOs, journalists, red carpet interviews and an award ceremony. All of this costs $30. I would have listed the details but there are too many. Head towww.NewMediaFilmFestival.com for the full scoop. The NYC Food Film Festival Tickets are now on sale. They have also announced some tantalizing details about this year’s festival. There will be over 25 films screened between October 13 and 16th at Tribeca Cinemas. This is a festival where you get more than a movie, however, you literally can taste what is on the screen. General admission tickets are available for all events and there are VIP and Festival-wide passes available as well. Menus at each event include food from the specific movie, beer, wine, cocktails (presented by “festival mixologist” Allen Katz). I was just happy to see a movie section post. They come so rarely. Usually the releases confound me or are for something happening on the day they are sent out (or I don’t get to them for a week). Really should write more about movies. For details and to purchase tickets head to www.thefoodfilmfestival.com. Please note, the VIP and Festival-wide tickets are limited. The New Media Film Festival’s two day event will be held at the Los Angeles Film School’s new state-of-the-art facility. The Fest takes place May 20-21, 2011.

Earlier this year we wrote about the NYC Food Film Festival. Four years into that fest (and over 20,000 attendies) they are expanding outward. The first annual Chicago Film Festival will take place September 24-25 at the MCA Warehouse. The festival will feature documentaries, shorts, features and, of course, food. How many other festivals let you taste what you watch?
The festival will feature films including Mark Irving’s Eat Your Fill, Orrin Zucker’s The Death & Life of Ice Cream, Craig Noble’s The Perfect Oyster and many more. One of the second night features is The Best of Hamburger America, a film by the festival’s director George Motz, for instance. Motz and Harry Hawk came up with the idea for the fest after the success of Hamburger America (book and film). There are (or perhaps at this point WERE) a limited number of special VIP passes and pre-sale tickets to most events. They went on sale Aug 19 so I apologize if they are gone! Visit www.chicagofoodfilmfestival.com to order and for information. The New York City Food Film Festival, with the James Beard Foundation, are presentint the world preimer of the film Florent: Queens of the Meat Market, June 24, 2010 at the Altman Building, 135 West 18th Street.
The event is hosted by and a benefit for The Food Bank for New York City. Performances by Daniel Nardicio, David Ilku, David Rakoff, Dirty Martini, Flotilla DeBarge, Lucy Sexton, Nora Burns, Penny Arcade and others. Guests will also be able to taste for a selection of Restaurant Florent menu items. Director David Signal, a devotee of the bistro, decided to document the restaurant’s history (including its wild parties) after hearing rumors that through-the-roof rents in the now gentrified area might force the closure of the restaurant (it closed in 2008). Tickets are available on the NYC Food Film Festival Website. for $75. There are also VIP tickets (limited) for $125. The VIP tickets include a gift bag and early entry at 8 p.m. You can see a trailer here- www.nowness.com/day/2010/5/28/662/florent--a-downtown-swan-song |
