
The exhibition will run from October 5 to December 15, 2012. There will be an opening reception Thursday,
October 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Unit 307, 3/F, Harbour Industrial Centre, 10 Lee Hing Street, Ap Lei Chau, Hong Kong.
Zao is 92 years old and has been recipient of numerous honors incuding; election to the Académie des Beaux-Arts, the decoration of Grand Officier de l’Ordre de la Légion d’Honneur by the President of France, the Praemium Imperiale Award for Painting by the Japanese Art Association in Tokyo and has been the repeated subject of retrospectives around the world.
Zao’s art training began in 1935 at the School of Fine Arts in Hangzhou. He left China for Paris in 1948 and studied modern painting.He was one of several prominent Chinese artists of that era to move to Paris. These “overseas”
Chinese painters blended the artistic traditions of their homeland with those of the west to create truly wonderful works. This exhibition will be of some of his large watercolor paintings dated between 2004 and 2009—his most recent work.
