Yves Hayat's Violent Luxury runs May 13 to June 6, 2015 at Shirin Gallery (511 West 25th St., New York). There will be a reception from 6 to 8 p.m Wednesday May 13. The exhibit is presented by Shirin in association with Mark Hachem Gallery (Paris).
Hayat, originally from Egypt but now living in France, creates multimedia work that is photograph and/or sculpture. These recent pieces deal with the paradox of violent luxury.
The artist himself states that he is more interested in manipulating reality than recording it. He isn't, after all, a historian but an artist. After his initial studies Hayat worked in advertising which gave him a ring side seat to how luxury is depicted and it's subtle violence.
