The forms in Yuji Ashikawa's work should be familiar to those who have attended an art show or two. This isn't because they are ubiquitous but rather because they are distinctive. Whether you LIKE them or not is immaterial (I happen to have an affection for them). The work is distinctive and, for whatever reason, is easy to identify with the artist.
That is saying something positive about any artist. It isn't an essential component of making art but when you have a style people can spot across a room? Good for you.
