Villa Del Arte Galleries (Barcelona/Amsterdam) showed work by Christiaan Lieverse and Corvengi Mikaelian at Art Miami 2016.
Lieverse is a Dutch painter who doesn't always paint on a canvas. This piece, for instance, is oil and acrylic on a carpet with a steel frame. Women's faces are often his subject matter.
Mikaelian, an Armenian artist, made me think of Hieronymous Bosch. Yet that is a flawed first impression. Certainly the complexity is similar but the style is obviously different as is they symbolism. There is some whiff of the iconic here but it is iconography of a new imagination.
