Lazaro 1991 Alexander and Bonin (132 Tenth Avenue New York, NYC) present an exhibition of sculptures by John Ahearn (collaborating with Rigoberto Torres) from January 11 to February 22, 2014. The sculptures were created in the years between 1981 and 1991. The exhibit includes both full figure castings, three-quarter castings and busts.
The two artists met at Fashion Moda in the Bronx and their cillaboration led to South Bronx Hall of Fame, an exhibition of 30 or so busts in 1979. Their casting process usually happens out on the sidewalk with friends and neighbors on hand--as much a party as anything else.
Ahearn is a native of Binghamton, NY and studied at Cornell. Torres is from Puerto Rico and worked in his family factory in the Bronx which made paster figurines.
