Tide Pool 6 April 2014 by Susan Derges Purdy Hicks Gallery (London) showed work by Susan Derges and Lee Youngbin at Pulse Miami Beach 2014.
Youngbin uses watercolor and Korean ink. She mixes cultural metaphors by using a technique simiar to Egyptian hieroglyphics in that things are draw in the way they can most easily be understood.
Derges tries to capture natural and scientific processes in her work. This piece is a unique C-type print. She sometimes imerses photographic paper directly into the water of rivers or shorelines to capture the movement of water. She uses a variety of unusual methods of exposing prints. Her work is fascinating to look at but the process beyond that makes it all even more interesting.
