Modern Eden Gallery (San Francisco) showed this piece by Emilio Villalba at Scope Miami beach 2017.
The angle makes it a bit hard to get this... but it mixes realism with the abstract. It is striking how if you were to look at ONE section of the painting it would seem an abstract while another is painterly realism. This isn't referring to an square inch but much broader sections. The detail and depth in the black sections use many shades of black, many versions of the absence of color.
