Mary-Anne Martin Fine Art (New York) showed work by Maria Izquierdo at Art Basel Miami Beach 2018.
Izquierdo was a Mexican paintier. A number of sources say she is the first Mexican woman to have her work exhibited in the United States (a bit hard to verify this). She was born in Jalisco and grew up in various small towns before moving to Mexico City.
These oil on canvas pieces vary somewhat in style. Hacia al paraiso was painted in 1954, a year before the artist's death, while Naturaleza viva was from eight years earlier. It is curious that the background in the earlier painting clearly resembles the work in the later piece.
