Gallery Forsblom is opening two shows soon. One is an exhibition of new paintings by Mark Francis and the other is an exhibition of architect/designer Ilkka Suppanen. Both begin November 16, 2012 and run through January 6, 2013. There will be opening receptions from 5 to 7 p.m. for both exhibits.
Suppanen’s exhibit, Broken, shows his glass sculptures which resemble lace. She manages to make them modern while, at the same time, incorporating Nordic traditional design elements. The pieces were made in Claudio Tiozzo’s glass studio.
Mark Francis’ Satellite deals with works inspired by the very act of seeing. You may see the pieces as abstract but they also have figures and dimensions beyond abstraction. His work nods to the invisible world of science via String Theory, the concept of multiple universes and other aspects of Quantum Mechanics.
