This abstract painter has work that moves, drips (obviously), down the canvas but what gets ME here is the color in these pieces (Poons did other sorts of paintings as well). You can look at these paintings for a long time and see all sorts of figures within the abstraction. I confess this might be purely my imagination but even if that is the case? It says something about how his work, well, works regardless.
Poons is an American painter (born in Japan) who started his artistic career studying to be a musician. He opted for painting instead. Less than ten years after beginning his studies at The School of the Museum of Fine Art he was included in an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art.
He currently teaches in New York City.
