Dzubas was born in Germany but came to the USA in his early 20s. In the early 1950s he was being shown in New York shows. He even shared a studio with Helen Frankenthaler.
His work ranges from Abstract Expressionism to Color Field Painting and beyond. He was also a teacher (Cornell and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston). Dzubas also was the recipient of two consecutive Guggenheim Fellowships.
