Henrique Faria (Buenos Aires) showed work by Mauro Guzmán at Untitled Miami 2017.
Silver and gold with hints of black and spooky imagery infuse these works. After I say these pieces I asked myself this question; would you look at these pieces if they didn't have the accoutrements hanging next to them. What if they were just the paintings?
This is something I often ask when I see paintings that add multi-media in a similar fashion. Is the artist "making up" for something?
Here the answer is a resounding no. For me each painting is compelling in itself, each piece makes you want to look closer. The trick is that the added media, the hanging bat for one, draw you to the pieces from a distance. These are cleverly put together.
