Hackett Mill (San Francisco) showed work by Emilio Vedova at Expo Chicago 2015.
Vedova was a self-taught artist from Venice whose early influences were the Old Masters. He was a member of the Italian resistance during World War II (and an avant- garde artist during the same period).
The piece Spagna '61 (below) was inspired by a visit to Franco's Spain, then still recovering from the bloody civil war. In part the piece is based on graffiti the artist saw on the trip.
