Frager's shows figures who are aware of the painter. They stare directly or look out of the corner of their eye. The expressions are not formal as in portraiture from earlier eras; these are people caught in everyday poses. The girl might be posing for a photo at MOMA and the woman catching someone out of the corner of her eye.
There is something subdued in the colors, browns and oranges predominate but the hints of color draw you (perhaps I should say "me") in.
