frosch&portmann (53 Stanton St., New York) will exhibit In the Company of Ghosts an exhibit by Dennis Dawson and Paul Paddock.frm January 16 to February 23, 2014. There will be an opening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 16.
The work includes drawings, paintings and sculptures that come out of the two artists mutual admiration and friendship. The two once shared a studio and have worked together but have, hitherto, never exhibited together.
Dawson's process begins with torn magazine pages that he then reworks. He paints over them, cuts them into collages. The works are made up of extensive layering.For him the ghosts are always present in his work.
Paddock creates watercolors that are modern myths and fairytales. His work uses vast negative space and reflects on the notion of idol worship and life after deat His ghosts are memories.
