Fresh! New paintings an works on paper from Suzanne Unrein at Rare (547 W. 27 St. #514, New York) January 8 To Feb 5, 2015. There will be an opening reception Thursday, January 8 from 6 to 8 p.m.
This is Unrein's third solo exhibit with Rare. These new, erotically charged, works show peaceful coexistence between humans and animals. Part of the inspiration for the pieces comes from the artist's collaboration with "lion whisperer" Kevin Richardson, Art of the Pride. That project's aim was to help save endangered African lions. Unrein painted Richardson as he interacted with lions--cageless and in the open.
Unrein's use of color always seems to leap off the paper--and these pieces seem to have her usual exuberance and almost classical technique.
