Ichikawa uses molten glass to create works on paper called pyrographs. To the right is a photographic example of the process. The pieces have been called "intuitive drawings."
The artist studied with Dale Chihuly and accidentally discovered the process after seeing burns on the floor. She then began experimenting with this fire painting technique.
Ichikawa received her BFA from Tokyo Zokei University and also studied at Tokyo Glass Art Institute (and also at Chihuly's Pilchuk Glass School). Her work has been shown at the University of Wyoming Art Museum, Seattle Art Museum and Bellevue Arts Museum. She lives in Seattle.
