They are made of tar and acrylic paint on cardboard and almost have the quality of a transferred photo. The artist, from Ivory Coast, has created a body of recent work dealing with abandoned children. Look at these pieces; the figures are there but also not quite whole, not full form.
These poignant pieces, at a glance, might not give the start they give at first glance but upon looking for the missing details their power emerges. Other artists paint on cardboard but here there is something symbolic in the use of this material we take for granted and so often discard.
